The Occupational Therapy Department was established in the year 1998 under the Department of Physical medicine and rehabilitation as a small clinical unit. It only provided clinical services to the patients and it was in September 2001, Occupational Therapy Education Programme was established under Annai JKK Sampoorani ammal charitable Trust and is conducted in Department of Occupational Therapy. It is a 4-½ year full time course affiliated to the Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University, Chennai.
The department also conducts Masters of Occupational Therapy Programme (Two year full time course) in different specialty, which started in September 2008. The integrated education and clinical practice is the hallmark of this institute. The academic programme is designed in such a way that the students can pursue their clinical practice and academic know-how in context with the social fabric both nationally and internationally.
The academic programme is accredited by the All India Occupational Therapist’s Association (AIOTA) the national governing body of the profession and by World Federation of Occupational Therapist in 2008, the apex professional body worldwide. The Occupational Therapy Centre is now one of the premier training centres of the country.
Carrier Guidance in Occupational Therapy (ERGO-MEDICINE)
Occupational therapy is a branch of Biomedical Science which is the application of purposeful, goal-oriented activity by latest technology to do evaluation, diagnosis, and/or treatment of persons whose function is impaired by physical illness or injury, emotional disorder, congenital or developmental delaying or the aging process,, in order to achieve optimum functioning, and to prevent disabilit y and maintain health.Therapists are dealing with:
- Disease and Disability (Prevention and Health Maintenance)
- Rehabilitation
- Daily Living tasks and
- Vocational adaptation

Spacious Play ground for students with play materials and well equipped Gymnasium is available. Mess bill is based on dividing system. Well experienced medical people are available for treating sick students.
